New Codes are released for 2023 and many are commonly verified codes on insurance breakdown of benefits. Read below carefully and talk with your team about your game plan for 2023 with insurance verifications. Specifically, diagnostic and periodontics. A couple of codes are in use NOW and the rest will be active as of January 1, 2023.
The American Dental Association's Code Maintenance Committee approved updates to six CDT code categories during its meeting.
Ten things to know:
1. The committee approved the addition of 29 new codes, 14 revisions, and two deletions.
2. The updates cover seven COVID-19 vaccination codes, six diagnostic imaging codes, and codes for the administration of human papillomavirus vaccines.
3. This is the first time a code has been established for the administration of the HPV vaccine.
4. The committee established six diagnostic imaging codes for tomosynthesis, bitewings, and periapicals.
5. Six procedure codes were approved for guided tissue regeneration.
6. There are four new codes to document 3D dental and facial surface scanning procedures.
7. Revisions were made to nomenclatures or descriptors of several codes for periodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, and adjunctive general services.
8. L. King Scott, DDS, chair of the Code Maintenance Committee, said two revisions to the D0210 and D4355 procedure codes will be published before CDT 2023 is effective.
9. The new COVID-19 vaccination codes are effective immediately.
10. The other CDT code updates will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2023.
